sacred harp music

This is part of my history. We know the parts of history that are aristocratic or concerning the people in power. This is a part of the history of the common man. I love it and I love the intensity in which they sing.

I forgot how loud our tribal sound was. Now that I sing with a different tribe, I am getting better about moderating my volume. I was used to singing full force. My new tribe doesn't use shape notes either.

just to be clear...It is not just a part of the Church of Christ tradition...in fact, it is not the Church of Christ that is keeping it alive. It is mostly Baptist and Methodist churches that hold these singings. Sacred Harp singings or Fasola, as it is also called, were held town to town and not necessarily church to church. They would hold singing schools in the little towns of the South.
